2013 – Present
Channel 19 in Arviat

Youth with the Arviat Film Society partnered with Isuma TV’s Digital Indigenous Democracy Project to establish an Indigenous youth-driven community television station. Officially launched in November 2013, Arviat TV broadcasts educational and cultural content to the entire community and beyond.

Notable Quotes:

“The entire community watches. It’s like 1950 and TV is new for the first time.”

-Jamie Bell, The Globe and Mail, January 7, 2014

“The society is truly a community effort. Arviat’s always been a media-savvy community. You could hear a pin drop in the room while talking with some of the Elders about traditional knowledge and some of the oral histories they are collecting in the community.”

-Jamie Bell, Nunatsiaq News, December 14, 2012
